Save the date!  The 52nd NHTM/NHTI New Hampshire State Math Contest will be at NHTI in Concord, NH, on Monday, March 16th, 2026, with a snow date of Tuesday, March 17th.

The New Hampshire Teachers of Mathematics invite you to form one 10-member mathematics team (with no more than four seniors and a maximum of eight juniors and seniors combined) and to join us for our 52nd competition! Your team will have the opportunity to meet with other students from throughout the state in a day of exciting, challenging, competitive mathematics exercises in six different categories.

The Team category involves all 10 members of the team separated into two groups of five. One of the four team category questions will require each group of five students working together to submit an expanded, detailed written response. That particular response will be judged on the style of solution, the coherence of the explanation and the organization of the correct solution. In other words, teams will need to present more than the correct answer to receive maximum credit for this question! A special group of judges will be responsible for scoring these papers. Each registered school will be assigned a code to be used for this category.

The remaining categories in the contest are Recreational Mathematics, Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, and Advanced Mathematics. Each of these 12-minute categories will consist of three questions of equal value taken by six members from each team. In these categories, students work independently.

Questions from previous contests are available on the NHTM website under "resources".

Please note an update to acceptable calculators.  The rules governing calculators are adopted from those now used by the College Entrance Examination Board for the SAT (effective August 2025).

There will be four divisions of competition. Use October 6th, 2025, as the official date for school enrollment figures. Please check this figure with school officials to avoid problems of being registered in an incorrect division. Divisions will be as evenly balanced number-wise as possible based on registrations received. Division information will be sent out to registered teams at least a week in advance of the contest.

Registration will be open beginning Monday 12/1/25 through Friday 2/13/26.  Payment or purchase order must be received by Friday 2/20/26.

Check-in on the day of the contest will be from 8:15 to 9:00, with the contest scheduled to begin at 9:30.

If you have any questions, please contact registration coordinator Michelle Morton-Curit (treasurer@nhmathteachers.org), site coordinator Anne Wallace (Anne.K.Wallace@doe.nh.gov), or Stephen Latvis (slatvis@windhamsd.org).

Check out these opportunities!

· Want to engage students while focusing on content area standards?

A full day in-person training July 16, 2025 in Nashua and a later 2-hour virtual training in Fall 2025 (TBD). The purpose of the professional learning will be to learn about:

This PD will focus on creating three simple classroom routines customized to your content area and grade level context that will promote student engagement by building on background knowledge, encouraging student interaction, and developing strong literacy skills.

Classrooms that:

  • develop academic vocabulary specific to the content area,
  • promote regular classroom discussion using the terms and concepts learned, and
  • provide consistent opportunities for writing

lead to more engaged students better prepared to communicate their understanding of the content area.

You will meet in content area and grade level specific groups to discuss these strategies and how to make them work in your context.

This work builds off lessons learned with authors Grace Kelemanik and Amy Lucenta in an NHED-funded Routines for Reasoning book study.
