2024 ATMNE Regional Conference Keynote Speakers |
Dr. Pamela Seda, an Atlanta-based educational consultant, brings over 30 years of experience to the field of education. As the Founder and CEO of Seda Educational Consulting, she helps schools build the capacity of teachers to provide engaging, rigorous, and culturally relevant mathematics experiences for all students through the ICUCARE Equity Framework.
She's the creator of the VANG Math Card Game and co-author of "Choosing to See: A Framework for Equity in the Math Classroom." Dr. Seda's career spans roles as a high school math teacher, instructional coach, college instructor, and district math supervisor.
Currently, she serves as the Nominations Chair of NCSM Leadership in Mathematics Education and President-Elect of the Benjamin Banneker Association. Dr. Seda is a prominent speaker on math equity, committed to transforming how marginalized students experience mathematics and advocates for mathematics instruction that develops all students as mathematical thinkers and problem-solvers.
Ken Williams is a husband, father, nationally recognized trainer, speaker, coach, and consultant in leadership, instructional equity, and school culture. Ken has served as a classroom teacher, assistant principal, and school principal. He is the author of the award-winning book Ruthless Equity - Disrupt the Status-Quo and Ensure Learning for ALL Students. Through his company, Unfold The Soul, Ken is skilled in joining the why of the work to the how of the work. He is known for his powerful and engaging combination of “heart, humor, and hammer” and has a passion for helping leaders transform their campus from “THAT school” to “THEE school.”

identifier of elephants in the room. His lens is firmly fixed on maximizing educator talent to ensure grade-level or
better learning for every student. When not working, Ken is often “running errands for no reason” in a 1975 Oldsmobile Delta 88 Royale convertible. He’s an avid bowler, a lover of classic films, documentaries, and old-school R&B and hip-hop music. Ken also derives joy from creating memories with family and close friends. Ken was born in Brooklyn, raised in Queens, and currently lives in Atlanta with his wife Nicole, son, Adam, daughter, Mia, and damn dog, Murphy.
Dr. Rachel Lambert is an Associate Professor in Special Education and Mathematics Education at the University of California Santa Barbara. Before becoming a researcher, she worked for over 10 years as both a special education and a general education inclusion teacher. Her work has focused on critical analysis of research in both special education and mathematics education using a disability studies in education lens. Dr. Lambert researches emotion and identity in mathematics classrooms, particularly for neurodiverse students of color. She has designed a mathematical version of Universal Design for Learning that integrates Design Thinking (UDL Math). Other current work includes designing agentic intervention through non-digital games. You can find her work on mathematizing4all.com.
She is also the author of Rethinking Disability and Mathematics: A UDL Math Classroom Guide for Grades K-8.
Latrenda Knighten, a Mathematics Curriculum Supervisor in Baton Rouge, LA. is currently President-Elect (2023 - 2024) for the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM). Latrenda will begin her two-year term as President at the close of the NCTM Annual Meeting in September 2024. She has been an educator for more than 30 years during which she has been a classroom teacher, an elementary science specialist, an elementary mathematics coach, a district Instructional Coach, and a Mathematics Content Trainer. Latrenda is the co-author of two books: Classroom-Ready Rich Math Tasks, Grades K - 1 and Answers to Your Biggest Questions About Teaching Elementary Math, K-5. As a passionate advocate for high-quality mathematics instruction for all students, she is also an active member of many mathematics professional organizations where she has served in leadership roles. Latrenda is a past member of the Board of Directors for the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, NCSM (Math Ed Leaders), and the Benjamin Banneker Association, Inc. She is also a member of the Mathical Book Prize Selection Committee.
Zachary Champagne has been involved in mathematics education for over 20 years. He believes that each and every student has important mathematical ideas and works to share his passion and love for mathematics with teachers around the country. Zak is currently serving as a Lead Teacher at The Discovery School in Jacksonville, Florida where he teaches third and fourth grade students.
He has received many state and national awards for excellence in teaching, including the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST), Duval County Teacher of the Year, Finalist for Florida Teacher of the Year, and the Kenneth Kidd Mathematics Educator of the Year award.

Dr. Nicki Newton is an education consultant who works with schools and districts around the country and Canada on k-8 math curriculum. She has taught elementary school, middle school, and graduate school. Dr Nicki has an Ed.M. and an Ed.D from Teachers, College Columbia University. She is greatly interested in teaching and learning practices around the world and has researched education in Denmark, Guatemala and India. She has written several books, including Guided Math, Math Workshop and Math Running Records. Her latest book is about Accelerating Math in k-8 classrooms. She is presently writing and researching a book about High Dosage Tutoring in Math. She is currently a part of the curriculum team for the new McGraw Hill Reveal Math series. Brian Butler is an educational consultant, speaker, author, and award-winning former principal who is passionate about nurturing collaborative school cultures that unlock the unlimited potential in every student. Brian has advised thousands of schools across the United States, Australia, and Canada. His expertise lies in coaching teacher teams, guiding school leadership, and fostering principal-administrator team collaborations. Drawing on the latest research and evidence-based practices, Brian empowers educators to believe in their role as catalysts for student empowerment. He focuses on harnessing the collective knowledge, skills, and experiences within school communities. Brian’s ultimate goal is to help schools and districts realize that the key to success is often found within their walls, which inspired him to name his company The Answer’s In The Room. He holds a bachelor’s degree in speech communications from The George Washington University, a teacher’s certification in physical education, and a master’s degree in school counseling from George Mason University. With an administrative endorsement from the University of Virginia, Brian is known for his ability to drive positive change. Dr. Katey Arrington is serving as the President of NCSM: Leadership in Mathematics Education. She is also the Director of Systemic Transformation at the Charles A. Dana Center at the University of Texas at Austin. Katey has extensive experience in designing and implementing system-level transformation across K-12 and higher education for increasing positive and equitable outcomes and leading networks for professional growth and learning. Katey's education includes a Doctor of Philosophy in Educational Policy and Planning, a Master of Arts in Secondary Mathematics Education, and a Bachelor's of Science in Mathematics.
Zarek Drozda is the Director of Data Science 4 Everyone, a national initiative and coalition based at the University of Chicago. Zarek helped launch DS4E in 2019, co-organizing a coalition of 3000+ education leaders to advance data science, data literacy, and AI education in K-12 schools across more than 20 states. Zarek previously served for the U.S. Department of Education’s Institute of Education Sciences (IES), where he led research on emerging technology and advised the national COVID response, coordinating data analytics for an inter-agency team between the White House, Department of Education, and Center for Disease Control (CDC). Prior to Federal service, Zarek helped build a social impact incubator (the Center for RISC) with economist and Freakonomics co-author Steven Levitt. Zarek earned a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of Chicago, and loves using data to tackle complex social problems.
Sue O’Connell has been a classroom teacher, math coach, school improvement specialist, and math consultant. She is the lead author for Heinemann's Math in Practice and Math by the Book series, and is the author of numerous other books that support the teaching of K-5 mathematics. Sue is the developer of hand2mind’s Navigating Numeracy Learning Progression Centers focused on meaningful practice for students in grades K-5. She is a frequent speaker at state and national math conferences and is Director of Quality Teacher Development LLC, providing on-site professional development for schools and school districts across the country.
Chase Orton was a high school math teacher for 12 years. Since 2012, he has worked as an independent collaborator facilitation workshops, coaching teachers, writing math curriculum and implementing lesson study. He is the author of The Imperfect and Unfinished Math Teacher a Journey to Reclaim Our Professional Growth and is passionate about making math class a more humanizing place for both students and teachers. An aspiring storyteller, Chase lives on the road in "Stoop" - his custom tiny home on wheels - and is currently collecting stories from math teachers all over the country.
